Farewell to Google Buzz.

Now its official that google buzz will no longer be seen below Inbox in my gmail. It was through BUZZ that I got invites to Google Wave, Google Plus. It was through BUZZ that I used to read about the active comments on man hot topics. It was through buzz that I used to get the most updates about what is new and happening in the photography world.

Google Buzz was so easy to get the updates and was my preferred media over other tools like Google reader or any other RSS feed readers that it was so integrated with gmail account that one doesn't have to sign in to other tools to get the latest updates and feeds.

I would say that I was too lazy to do so and google BUZZ was the reason.

But soon things won't be the same.

TIP OF THE DAY:
Have you been facing a problem making calls from you LG handset? Do you get an error/alert on your screen "FAILURE TO AUTHORIZE"?

If so then here is the solution.
Go to Menu - Settings - Call - Send My Number - ON/Set By Network.

Since two days I was not able to make calls but somehow today I managed to figure out that Send My number was selected as Off.

New ideas for a blog post

Every blogger or writer goes through this face called - writer’s block.
So might have you. There are times when ideas just don’t spur as spontaneously as you might want.
So how to keep idea constantly flowing? Many find it difficult but is it really that difficult?

Here are a few tips that came to my mind.
When I am short of ideas I keep a watch on the comments sections of other blogs or articles posted.
What these comments have to offer to you?
These comments to articles and blogs allow readers to express their opinions, to critique, to challenge the information or expression. A constructive criticism is always appreciated. It always brings opportunity to a new thought.

Certain events or stories that might have caught your attention have the potential to turn into a good blog post. Some ideas come from daily life, events, interaction with people around you at work or at a bar or a restaurant or waiting in a queue.
Some blog publishing application like wordpress has features like zemanta which give ideas.
Read RSS feeds for inspiration; check online publications in your subject areas.
Some prefer to write down keywords that come into your mind on a blank paper and let your imagination do the rest by joining the dots.
You will see that after doing this practice you will come up with infinite ideas.

What happened to Socialtoo?

Buzz has been a tool within gmail which I had been reading ever since it is active. I would say that its posts have been a must-read for me every single day. I added very few people on buzz. Among them my most favourite and most read articles are the one written by Louis Gray.
His posts are a combination of knowledge and opinions based on the ones he follows and he also adds his own observations which also gives us a different perspective.
I never miss to read his posts and visit websites he suggests.
The most recent such post was about the website socialtoo.
That raised my curiosity and went to the site but was surprised to find that it is temporarily unavailable.

Should I post multiple times in a day or once in a week?
Numerous thoughts and debates going around to justify there answers.
But all those points may have worked for a few but may not work for the rest.
I am not a guy who falls under the category of regular blogger. I am neither under the category of regular blog reader though I have subscribed to numerous RSS feeds and atom feeds.
I ocassionally login to google reader to read them. My frequency to read blogposts by other writers dropped substantially. I would rather say that i am a weekly reader.
My frequency of writing blogpost is horrifying. I dont even remember when I posted last time. May be few months back.
So what was the reason of me not writing any posts? Is it lack of time and interest or is it a lack of creativity?
Or is it a combination of both? May be its true may be its not.

Recently I came across a great post by a popular Silicon Valley blogger who wrote about how the increase in number of social networking sites and information overload has become a bit difficult to manage. You can also read his entire post on his blog louisgray.com or if you have google account and if you have activated google Buzz then you can also follow him louisgray.

Despite significant attempts at automation, people continue to be human, and thus, emotion is involved. With so much content being created and shared in more places, and the hours in the day not having increased for some time, the potential for data to be distributed and lie untouched is increasing, even as the total number of users of communities grows. Sharing is outpacing user growth in practically every case, so far as I can tell.

I totally agree with his point. It all depends upon the purpose of your writing. Are you writing to gather attention or traffic for your blog or to give a voice for your inner self. Former will melt down with time. At the end nothing but the dissapointment of not getting enough views hovers your mind. I prefer to go by the later. Whether I get read or no read, whether my post gets digg or no digg, whether some one stumble upon or no. It really doesnt matter.

Sorry for not blogging for all these days.. Life's bit busy and certain things do come in life can't avoidable. Recently I had been working hard to create my own website (since i never had one in past) and that too if one doesn't even know the head and tail of HTML coding or the CSS coding things become a bit difficult. Facing with the same dilemma I have started learning a bit. Thanks to the various tutorial sites. It had been real fun to learn from them. BTW. This Sunday I did another Time Lapse photography but this time in a different way than I did previously. In my Previous clip the video was done by taking images at interval of 5-10 secs and then merging those images in sequence with a help of a movie editing software. This time I did it by recording a video footage for almost 40 mins then editing and manipulating to make this video lesser than 1 min.

So here's the clip. Hope you like it.

This image still looks crappy if we compare with the works of the masters of time lapse
photography. The improvement I have to do is keep the camera stable (mounting on tripod didnt help.). I will learn it soon.

We all know what Mahatma Gandhi did for our nation. It was he who started the movement of "satyagrah" with non-violence - "Ahimsa" against British rule and gave us freedom. But then history knows that step by step the people who most favoured Gandhi for his ahinsa movement; who at once went hand-in-hand with Gandhi in his freedom fighting movement soon after his death left the path of ahinsa and moved towards hinsa?

first instance-

After independence in 1947, the princely states were forced to accede (read: forced to accede)— and thus sign away their political autonomy — either to the secular, mainly Hindu dominion of India or the majority Islamic dominion of Pakistan (consisting of West Pakistan and East Pakistan; the latter would later break away as Bangladesh).

second instance-

By October, 1962, India was at war with China. In fact, on October 26, 1962, the centre announced that ``India is being put on a war footing to face the Chinese menace.'' Indian president Dr. Radhakrishnan even proclaimed a state of emergency. Following this announcement, India went into hyperactivity in order to put an end to the two-pronged Chinese aggression in the then North Eastern Frontier Agency (now, Arunachal Pradesh) and Ladakh.

Overnight, a 31-member National Defence Council headed by the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was set up to monitor the rapid development at the border. In fact, the Chinese troops made inroads into the Indian territory - they occupied Tawang in NEFA and inched towards Chaushal in Ladakh. The Indian soldiers' progress was severely hampered by lack of warm clothing and difficulty to acclimatize to the hilly and cold ranges where the battles were raging.

To tide over this, the then finance minister Morarji Desai flagged off the National Defence Fund with an appeal to the people to contribute generously in rupees, gold and/or gold ornaments. And, people contributed with patriotic fervour.

Mr S. P. Jain announced a contribution of Rs 5 lakhs to the National Defence Council. Mrs Shanti Prasad Jain donated ornaments etc. of about 200 tolas of gold for the cause. The Times of India collected funds for the National Defence Fund. All collected fund was handed over to the Citizens' Defence Committee, Bombay.

So why suddenly within 10 - 20 years these political honchos whom we still look with respect reclined towards something that was against Gandhi's philosophy? Is it that they feared that Ahinsa could bring nothing but another 100 years of slavery?

If Ahinsa was such a strong weapon then why there was a need of emergency to develop a strong military regiment?

From then, till now we have walked so many miles that now we feel proud to have nuke weapons. This could be topic of good debate; wots ur say?

60 years passed but still today many do not understand the difference between Indian Republic day and Indian Independence day. The Constitution of India came into force, and India declared itself as a "Republic" on January 26, 1950, a date thereafter celebrated annually as Republic Day in India. The Constitution had been prepared by the Constituent Assembly which was set up upon India gaining its independence from the British in 1947. This, in fact, was a deliberate act: the 26th of January was initially India's "Independence Day", one of Mahatma Gandhi's many symbolic acts during India's Freedom Struggle against the British colonial rule, and the adoption of the Constitution on this date was felt able to strengthen its initial meaning, one calling for Indians of all ages to declare their freedom from the British Raj. It is one of three annual national holidays in India, the other two being the nation's Independence Day on August 15 (since 1947) and the birthday of Mohandas K Gandhi or Mahatma Gandhi on October 2. And so, after the disposal of the Empire of India; King George VI was the last and only "King" of the modern India.

The transition of India from a British colony to a sovereign, secular, and democratic nation was indeed historical. It was a long journey of around two decades that started with the conceptualization of the dream in 1930 to its actual realization in 1950. The seeds of a republican nation were sowed at the Lahore session of the Indian National Congress at the midnight of 31st December 1929. The session was held under the presidency of Pt. Jawarhar Lal Nehru. Those present in the meeting took a pledge to mark January 26 as "Independence Day" in order to march towards realizing the dream of complete independence from the British. The Lahore Session paved way to the Civil Disobedience movement. It was decided that January 26, 1930 would be observed as the Purna Swaraj (complete Independence) Day. Many Indian political parties and Indian revolutionaries from all over the country united to observe the day with honour and pride.

This month has been a benchmark for me towards my hobby of photography.

I always wanted to do night photography and was successful doing so with my recent camera that I purchased Minolta X700. I captured this shot with an exposure of 15-20 secs on bulb setting, ISO 400, F5.6.

With my digital camera Kodak C713 I captured few shots of my town Dombivli. With photoshop I merged 6 images to one and created a panoramic view of my town.

I received few cannisters from Finland by Tarja Trygg who is a Senior lecturer at University of Art and Design, Helsinki for the project of solargraphy to capture the sun's movement. Thanks buddy.

when I say about viewership it is different that of readership. If you are a blog reader your blog can be accessed by many other medias. Say for example I have an account with google reader which filters and brings all the recent posts of my favourite bloggers on one screen. Here the difference is that I do not have to go to the respective blogger’s blog to read the recent post. So the author of the blog got my readership but not the viewsership. To increase the viewership one has to go to the blogsite which thus adds the no of viewership.

3. Comments posted by the visitors.

4. they want there blog to generate revenue.
Now this can be generated by Ads or by sponsorship by corporate clients or the industries if you are blogging for any specialized industry.

5. Reputation
It can be from any of these forms
a. Interviewed by medias e.g., ezines, newspapers, other popular blogs, TV, radio, etc., etc.
b. Invited to be a guest blogger for a popular blog. or to speak in a seminar.
c. Nominated in blog competition like BOB awards.

Okay! so now the Egypt is getting recognised in the business of customer services and putting there strong foot in BPO Industry... hmm, quite interesting! (atleast for me since I am an Indian working for BPO and keep tracks of things happening globally in this industry). The US relationship with India is established. While Egypt may capture some of that market, the focus is on European companies, where Egypt has a marked advantages over India. Even National Outsourcing Association has recognised and rewarded Egypt as the Offshoring Destination of the Year (2008). Well, india to has bagged an award Special award for consistent excellence for outsourcing practice across all disciplines, an NOA award and Winner is Infosys.

Coming across to this factoid I did some more research and here's what I found out.

Egyptian call centers are able to provide services in a variety of languages including Arabic, English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Greek, Portuguese and Russian.
Egyptians generally have more neutral accents than their counterparts in India, the Far East or North Africa – a point that has not gone unnoticed by MNCs and international clients looking to offshore their inbound or outbound services.
Egypt is only a three or four hour flight from most destinations in Europe, versus 18 or 19 hours of flying to get to India.

This snippet which I got from a friend's email is quite a funny read.

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as 'Euro-English'.

In the first year, 's' will replace the soft 'c'. Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy.

The hard 'c' will be dropped in favour of 'k'. This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome 'ph' will be replaced with 'f'. This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.

I am a member of a group sponsored by Kodak on flickr. few members had a problem with uploading pics on this group because they thought if they do so they loose the rights of the pic they upload and the whole credit goes to kodak. They feared that kodak gets to use there images for free for commercial and promotional purposes. For a few like me photography is simply a hobby and I would be more than thrilled if someone decided (kodak for instance) to use a pic for promotional purpose or if one of my images showed up in a national Kodak ad. Many pro photographers who use flickr to share there images had a big issue with this. But now that Kodak has changed the group rules its all set.

We heard those of you that had concerns about the group rules and we have made some changes that will hopefully alleviate them.

#1 - "You hereby grant Eastman Kodak Company and its affiliates (“Kodak”) a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free right and license to use, copy, publicly display, publicly perform, publish or distribute any still or motion images that you post on or submit to the Group (“Images”), in addition to any messages, data, information, text, audio, graphics or other material besides Images that you post into the Group (“Content”), solely in connection with the Group or the promotion of the Group in any online media"

If we use an image that has been uploaded to this group, it will be used in context of the Flickr group or to promote the Flickr group itself.

#2 - "To the extent an Image is used in connection with the Group or the promotion of the Group, Kodak will attribute credit to you as the owner of the Image."

If we use an image from the group, the photographer will always get credit where it is used.

#3 - "Kodak will actively seek your express written permission prior to using your Images or Content for any purpose other than outlined above. In the absence of such written permission, no alternative use will be authorized."

We will not take an image from the group and use it somewhere without asking the photographer first. The owner has the right to say no, and then we simply won't use it.

These changes should ease the worries of users who believed their images could be used for a purpose they did not approve of.

The possible usage is much like that of our long running Kodak Picture of the Day. Picture of the Day selections are sometimes featured on the homepage of kodak.com with a credit to the photographer and the label Kodak Picture of the Day on a certain date. They are also featured on the Kodak jumbotron in Times Square and the 1000 Words Blog. People enter their photographs for the enjoyment of being widely recognized and sharing their great photos.

Tattooed employees are increasing in our workplace. Especially in a BPO where I work has a dozen employees who have visible tattoos. I don't have tattoo and I don't judge.

Many businesses have grooming standards like "Wot to wear and wot not". Dress codes like - strictly formals on Mon, tue; Semi-formals on wed, thu and Casuals on fri. Not only that but also body art, piercings, hairstyle, etc. My office does follow and so does other businesses.

For some its not a huge issues as tattoos are a part of our culture now - the culture of Gen-Y. Afewnever let the tattoos show during an interview for a job. You do it for first impressions. Once someone knows your work, say - you are familiar with other people around and vice versa, they judge you by the work you deliver.

What I am talking about is putting an end to doing things the way we’ve always done them. How businesses worked in the past aren’t necessarily what is going to make them work now or in the future. Instead, businesses should take a look at piracy to fuel their company brands and increase consumer support.

I got this idea after reading A Pirate’s Dilemma by Matt Mason, which I started awhile back. The book goes through various creative movements that have all begun by one “pirate” ripping off someone else’s work, particularly large companies. The conclusion that Matt Mason draws is that the whole piracy movement fuels creativity and has great potential in solving major problems.

One example of this is the prescription drugs market. Western drug companies don’t sell AIDS drugs to the developing countries that make up 90% of the people suffering from AIDS because they can’t afford to pay the price. Because of profit, drug companies use patents to ensure that cheaper, generic drugs do not enter into these developing countries as competition. (Page 62 if you’d like to read more about this particular example.)

The problem is that many lives could be saved, but fear of losing profit stops these companies from saving those who need it most. Mason suggests companies need to harness this creativity and collaborate with these so-called pirates.

OK, so this is an extreme case but just think about it: What would happen if instead of simply worrying about dollar signs and only the bottom line? Too often companies forget what customers are saying, how they perceive the company’s brand and how the product or service can serve creative thinking and the consumer.

In what language do deaf people think? Nevertheless, they must think in some language. Would they think in English if they use sign language and read English? How would they do that if they've never heard the words they are signing or reading pronounced? Or maybe they just see words in their head, instead of hearing themselves?

Girdhar Gopal's Hindi Examination Dilemma

He was known to be excellent in Hindi as his intermediate call was in Madras (now Chennai) and the first language he had learned in UP where he was born, was hindi. He completed his Hindi examination within the time allotted with about half an hour to spare. He was sitting there killing his time which left after finishing his paper when his fellow chum Govind, casually reached over and picked up his answer paper and busily started copying. For about half an hour while Govind was busy copying, Girdhar died several deaths. If Govind were caught; not only would he be failed or worse, but so would Girdhar as a party to the copying. However, Govind was not caught and Girdhar went on to win the Hindi Prize that year, a Prize that was given to him by the then Chief Minister and Congress leader Kamaraj Nadar.

This was an interesting dilemma that Girdhar faced fifty years ago. what's your say??

At the India Aviation 2008 in Hyderabad, Patel said, “It is very difficult in our political system to write a cheque. But I will be meeting the finance minister and various banks and asking them not to put undue pressure on airlines (by not lending). Aviation is a vital infrastructure sector that needs funding.”
The government is likely to toss a Rs 2,500-crore rescue package for Air India, the state-owned airline.
The rescue package will include a cash injection of Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 1,500 crore into Air India’s tiny equity base of Rs 145 crore. The rest of the money — about Rs 1,000 crore — will be provided as soft loans.

Ticket refund rule
Private Indian carriers are asking the government to recall its recent directive on ticket refunds.
The carriers have informed the ministry that the new directive requires them to refund more than 60 per cent of the total ticket fare, which would be a huge drain on revenues.
Airlines are now expected to refund passenger service fees, congestion surcharge and fuel surcharge in case of ticket cancellations. The three components account for around 60 to 80 per cent of the total ticket fare. Currently, carriers refund just the basic fare, which could be as low as Re 1.

One of my favorite song by Johhny Cash is the above titled - My name is Sue.

It tells the preposterous yet moving tale of a young man's quest for revenge on an absent father whose only contribution to his entire life was naming him Sue, traditionally a girl's name. The name was the cause of endless ridicule as the young man was growing up. As the years went on, Sue grew big, strong and fearsome from all the fights he got into with bullies.

At the climax of the song, Sue finds and confronts his father, and the two get into a vicious brawl. After the two have beaten each other almost senseless, Sue's father admits that the name was given to him as an act of love: because he knew he would not be there for his son, Sue's father gave him that name to make sure that he grew up strong. Recently I had been reading the article for cloud computing. The cloud is a metaphor for the internet.

Let me explain in a layman term. Cloud computing is a general concept that incorporates software as a service, Web 2.0 and other recent, well-known technology trends, where the common theme is reliance on the Internet for satisfying the computing needs of the users. For example, Google Apps provides common business applications online that are accessed from a web browser, while the software and data are stored on the servers.

Google Chrome just launched to beta, but it's clear from comments from Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page that they consider Chrome a major step in application development along Google's path to slay the dragon that is Microsoft Windows. This path will take Google into the heart of cloud computing, which will propel Web services on desktops, notebooks and mobile devices.

"You actually spend more time in your browser than you do in your car," said Brian Rakowski, group product manager for Google's browser project.

Google co-founder Sergey Brin said Chrome was designed to address the shift to using software from within a Web browser rather than as locally installed computer applications running inside Microsoft Windows or some other operating system.

Google believes any task done in a standalone desktop computer application can be delivered via the Web and Chrome is its bet that software applications can be run via a browser.

"We (Web users) want a very lightweight, fast engine for running applications," Brin said.

"The kind of things you want to have running standalone (on a computer) are shrinking," he said, adding that he still edits photos on his computer rather than using a Web program.

Now there is another buzz in the market. Nomura buys Lehman Brothers Asia unit for $225 M. Nomura called the deal "a once in a generation opportunity" for the japanese brokerage house. The deal would include Lehman's 3,000 employees in Asia, including the U.S. investment bank's biggest regional offices in Japan and Hong Kong.
Jesse Bhattal, CEO of Lehman Brothers Asia, also welcomed the deal in the statement, saying it was "truly a remarkable opportunity" for both financial giants.

Today marks the launch of a nationwide awareness campaign, "Stop Hiding from Psoriasis," led by Grammy Award-winning artist and psoriasis sufferer, LeAnn Rimes, who is working with the American Academy of Dermatology (Academy) and National Psoriasis Foundation to raise awareness of psoriasis and encourage sufferers to talk to their dermatologist about the impact of the disease.LeAnn knows first-hand the physical and emotional pain of psoriasis. "Having battled severe psoriasis my whole life, I have gone to great lengths to hide my condition, especially as a performer. Over the years, I've had to deal with the emotional and physical toll psoriasis has had on my self-esteem and confidence, but today I no longer let psoriasis define who I am or how I feel about myself. I hope by joining this effort and sharing my story, others will be empowered to stop hiding from their psoriasis and better manage their disease and not let it limit them or their aspirations."

Olympic swimmer Dara Torres recently teamed up with the National Psoriasis Foundation to launch a national public service announcement (PSA) to raise awareness that psoriasis is a serious disease of the immune system and not just a cosmetic condition. Torres, a 12-time Olympic medal winner and American record holder, encourages everyone living with this disease "to be their own champion" and seek support, information and proper treatment to effectively manage their psoriasis. The champion swimmer, who has lived with psoriasis for nearly 20 years, is the first Olympic athlete to speak out about the disease.

A new breed of film makers are booming. Thanks to internet. Short films as short as 2 min clip to an hour clip. These films are far away from the commercial movies in terms of scripts, direction and casting. with a minimal or no financial investment needed. All you needed is a camera that keeps rolling the event you want to put across your viewers. Internet is a channel where such short films can be viewed. but how much viewership we get is still a big question.

Short films can be uploaded on the network sites like Youtube, myspace, dailymotion. but then this limits the viewership.

Still many people have limited bandwidth speed provided by there ISPs that limit there access to view such films.

Advantage itself has its own disadvantages.

And what if I want to download these film on my computer which later can be shared by burning on CDs or DVDs.

Prof. Lakshman Krishnamurthi is the Montgomery Ward Distinguished Professor of Marketing. He says "The 20th century was the American century. The 19th," he adds, "was perhaps European, but a journey further into the past reveals a different distribution of global wealth and glory. A thousand years ago, India and China had been the world's richest nations for the previous millennium. And Krishnamurthi says it would take more than a couple centuries of Western prosperity to quell that kind of inertia.
According to Krishnamurthi, India's "little guys" have used their greater access to outside funding to build an enormous — but not scalable — retail sector. "It's a country of mom-and-pop stores," he says. "Every store is very small, and there are millions of them. It is completely inefficient, and is a sector that has to modernize. Major players like Reliance and Bharti are getting into it. India's large, young workforce could put India's economy at a distinct advantage. But it will also pose new challenges.

CHROME

Recently I read an article on the newly launched web browser by google named CHROME. I opted to install this browser on my comp to experience new surfing comfort. (As proclaimed by google). Until I installed CHROME, I preferred Internet Explorer 8 which is definitely one of the best browser till date I have used it. The very notable difference is the browser is bit faster than IE in terms of loading images.
How well does it work with video?
when I opened my blog it asked me to install the plugin.

Again, this blog launched a new incognito window which is seen in the mozilla, IE 7 and IE 8.

As for my 20 minutes analysis I liked CHROME over IE8. I will have to test and access few more websites and discover a lot about the feature - to - feature against IE8. Till then... Here, I sign off.

Today I had been facing problem with opening window explorer and even internet explorer to some extent. Somehow I managed to open it but it became so vulnerable that it has also started effecting my newly installed WINDOWS LIVE MAIL which i love to use the most for writing emails. I tried to fix this bug but all invain. So I decided to uninstall and reinstall the software.

sucks.. nothing works man.. let me restart my computer and see if that works.
Nope!!! it didnt..

I tried many options among which includes going to the regedit file and deleting the registry of Netzip Demon which was suggested by none other than my friend ALOK. but that worked neither.

I decided to google and see if I was lucky enough to find any solution. tonnes of links directing to download anti-spywares. They were capable to detect the hazards done to my comp but none were ready to solve the problem unless I opt to buy one. (no meal is for free.. huh) .

NEVER give up!!! thats what I learned in my childhood. So how could I at this point of time.

One link took me to techspot.com where it suggested to rename.. VOYLA!!!... so, I opened C:\WINDOWS\system32 and selected nzdd.dll and renamed it to nzdd_.dll. Restarted my computer.

YUPPY!! It started working. Atlast I found the solution. Though I am not a comp geek. but sometimes my brains works, dude. I don't know if this was the permanent solution. Still I am trying to find a solution which can fix this problem permanently till then Enjoy!!!
